Kirklees Council have also pledged £250 million investment as part of the ‘Huddersfield Blueprint’ a significant scheme to regenerate and modernise parts of the town.
The plan aims to deliver five key objectives for Huddersfield Town Centre: A vibrant culture, art, leisure and nightlife offer, thriving businesses, a great place to live, improved access and enhanced public spaces. It was subject to extensive public engagement in the latter half of 2019, to shape six key areas in the form of the Station Gateway, St Peter’s, Kingsgate and King Street, New Street, the Civic Quarter and introducing a new Cultural Heart in the Queensgate and Piazza area.
The Cultural Heart is anticipated to be the catalyst for change within the town centre, and the council have positioned it as the most iconic vision within the Blueprint. It will aim to deliver on new high-quality public spaces where visitors and residents can congregate and enjoy leisure, arts and music.
